In November 2011, we were commissioned (along with musician Vicki Brown) by Kore Press to create an evening-length performance about the life and work of Emily Dickinson. The performance was part of a larger, 4-month Kore Press project called The Big Read Tucson, involving poetry readings, discussions, visual art exhibits, dessert menus, chess games, and other Emily-inspired events for the community. The Big Read is a nation-wide literacy campaign of the National Endowment for the Arts presented in partnership with Arts Midwest.
“If my verse is alive …”: An Evening of Dance and Music in Honor of Emily Dickinson was performed on Nov. 12, 2011 to an almost sold-out Proscenium Theater at Pima Community College Center for the Arts
It featured new works by NEW ART choreographers: Kimi Eisele, Erika Farkvam, Moriah Mason, Lisa-Marie McFarlane, Tammy Rosen, Katie Rutterer, and original music compositions by Vicki Brown.
“If My Verse Is Alive…” was featured on Arizona Public Media’s Arizona Illustrated in Nov. 2011:
